redesigning software downloads

this brief involved redesigning a software downloads page for a biotech company that produces sequencing devices and software. the issues that the client had identified focused around the difficulty in navigating the page and filtering to find relevant information. other issues included design inconsistencies and a lack of clarity on whether software could be downloaded on the website or on the device itself.

initial research and development involved sketching out some basic user journeys, conducting some competitor research and producing basic wireframes that showcase different ways to address the issues raised by the client. three routes were produced and presented, with a nested design that filters the user through a journey to ensure that they have accessed the correct page.

the user starts on a landing page with images of all the devices, as well as CTAs to other software types. if the user clicks through to a piece of software, they select their operating system and are given clear information on how to download software, with several other useful resources signposted on the page.

in order to demonstrate the function of this design to stakeholders, a complex prototype was produced that demonstrated how a user interacts. establishing the parameters for this project was the biggest challenge, but once we were clearer on what the client wanted, we were able to refine our approach to produce a software downloads section that feels responsive to use and comprehensive for a user at any level.
